Terms of Service

Last Updated: 13 January 2026

1. Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Skooled platform ("Platform"), provided by Unlikly, a company based in Zambia. By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, please discontinue using the Platform immediately.

2. Use of the Platform

Skooled provides a marketplace connecting students ("Students") and tutors ("Tutors") for live, online tutoring sessions. All lessons take place within the designated Skooled Virtual Classroom.

Relationship: Skooled is not an educational institution and does not employ Tutors. Tutors are independent contractors who use the Platform to offer their services to Students.

3. Parent Accounts

Parents or guardians may create accounts to manage their children's tutoring experience. Parent accounts provide the following capabilities:

  • Create student accounts for minor children
  • Link to existing student accounts (with student approval)
  • Book and pay for lessons on behalf of their children
  • Observe live lessons in view-only mode
  • Review lesson history and whiteboard content after lessons

Responsibility: Parents are responsible for their children's conduct on the platform and for ensuring children meet minimum age requirements. Parents must supervise their children's use of the platform as appropriate.

4. Payments & Payouts

Skooled operates on a "Pay-As-You-Go" model. We do not maintain a rechargeable student wallet.

  • For Students: You pay for each lesson individually at the time of booking using Mobile Money (Airtel, MTN) via our payment partner, Pawapay.
  • Escrow: Payment is held securely by Skooled in escrow until the lesson is successfully completed. Funds are not released to the Tutor until the service is delivered.
  • For Tutors: Earnings are credited to your "Tutor Ledger" upon lesson completion. Payouts are processed weekly (every Monday at 06:00 CAT) directly to your registered Mobile Money number.

5. Fees & Commissions

Platform Commission: Skooled retains a 20% service fee from the Tutor's set hourly rate. The remaining 80% is credited to the Tutor.

Transaction Fees: Mobile Money transaction fees (e.g., sending money from your phone to Skooled, or Skooled sending money to the Tutor) are determined by the network operator (Airtel/MTN) and will be deducted from the final payout amount.

6. Cancellations & Refunds

Because payments are made per lesson, canceling a confirmed booking initiates a refund process. Note that the 5% service fee is non-refundable in all cases.

Student Cancellation Policy

  • More than 24 hours notice: 100% refund of the lesson fee. The amount paid will be reversed to your Mobile Money account.
  • 12-24 hours notice: 50% refund of the lesson fee. Partial compensation to the Tutor for their reserved time.
  • Less than 12 hours notice: No refund. The Tutor is fully compensated for their reserved time.

Tutor Cancellations & No-Shows

If a Tutor cancels a lesson at any time, or fails to join the classroom within 10 minutes of the start time, the Student is entitled to a 100% full refund of the lesson fee.

Automatic No-Show Detection

Our system automatically detects no-shows by tracking classroom attendance:

  • Tutor no-show: If the tutor does not attend but the student does, a full lesson fee refund is automatically created for admin approval.
  • Both no-show: If neither party attends, a full lesson fee refund is automatically created for the student.
  • Student no-show: If only the student fails to attend, no refund is issued and the tutor is compensated.

Refund Processing: Approved refunds are processed automatically via Mobile Money. You will receive email notifications when your refund is initiated and completed. Please contact support@unlikly.com if a refund has not appeared in your Mobile Money account within 48 hours.

7. Disputes

If you experience issues during a lesson (e.g., tutor misconduct, significant technical failures on the tutor's end, or failure to deliver the agreed lesson content), you may report the lesson within 24 hours of completion.

Dispute Resolution Process

  • When you file a dispute, our admin team is immediately notified for review.
  • A pending refund request is automatically created for disputed lessons.
  • Our team reviews classroom attendance records, time tracking data, and any evidence provided.
  • The admin will either approve or reject the refund based on the circumstances.
  • You will be notified of the resolution via email.

Repeated or frivolous disputes may result in account review or suspension.

Note: Disputes are only available for lessons conducted within the Skooled Virtual Classroom. Lessons moved to external platforms are not eligible for dispute resolution.

8. Class Conduct & Technology

The Virtual Classroom: Both parties agree to use the Skooled video and whiteboard tools for the duration of the lesson. Our classroom features real-time video conferencing with automatic connection recovery. Moving the lesson to external platforms (Zoom, WhatsApp) voids any payment protection or dispute resolution rights.

Connectivity: Users are responsible for ensuring they have a stable internet connection. Our system will attempt to automatically reconnect if connection issues occur. Refunds are not issued for lessons missed due to the Student's poor internet connectivity.

Collaborative Whiteboard: Our interactive whiteboard allows tutors and students to draw, write, and collaborate in real-time. All whiteboard content is automatically saved and can be reviewed after lessons end by participants and linked parents.

Messaging: Real-time messaging is available between tutors and students/parents with typing indicators and read receipts. Unread messages are batched and sent as email digests. Messages may be reviewed by Skooled staff for safety and dispute resolution purposes.

Tutor Intro Videos: Tutors may upload, record, or link to an intro video to help students learn about their teaching style before booking.

9. Ratings & Reviews

After each lesson, students may rate the lesson (1-5 stars) and provide feedback. Students may also leave one overall review per tutor, which can be updated over time.

  • Reviews must be honest and relevant to the tutoring experience.
  • Reviews must not contain offensive, defamatory, or inappropriate content.
  • Skooled reserves the right to remove reviews that violate these guidelines.

Tutors may not offer incentives for positive reviews or pressure students to change their ratings.

10. Account Management

You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials. You agree to provide accurate and current information, including your legal name and valid Mobile Money number, to facilitate correct payments.

11. Tutor Verification

Tutors must provide government-issued identification (NRC/Passport) and educational credentials. While Skooled performs manual verification checks, we do not guarantee the accuracy of information provided by Tutors. Students are encouraged to review Tutor videos and ratings before booking.

12. Beta Program & Waitlist

Skooled may operate a beta waitlist system to manage platform access during early stages of development.

  • Users on the waitlist will be notified via email when they can create an account.
  • Beta users may experience features that are still in development and subject to change.
  • Beta access does not guarantee continued access after the beta period ends.

Referrals: Users may share referral links to invite others to join the platform. Referral benefits, if any, are subject to change at our discretion.

13. Termination

Skooled reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, attempt to circumvent the platform payment system ("disintermediation"), or engage in inappropriate conduct during lessons.
