This Privacy Policy explains how Unlikly, operating as Skooled ("we", "our", or "us"), collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our online tutoring platform and services (collectively, the "Services"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience on our platform.

By using our Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our Services.

2. Information We Collect

We collect several types of information from and about users of our Services, including:

Personal Data

  • Identity Information: Name, email address, phone number (used for Mobile Money), and profile picture.
  • Account Information: Username, password, and account preferences.
  • Financial Transaction Data: We do not store credit card numbers. We collect transaction records related to Mobile Money payments (Airtel/MTN) processed via Pawapay, including transaction references, timestamps, and amounts.
  • Payout Details (Tutors Only): Mobile Money numbers registered for receiving weekly payouts.
  • Educational Information: For tutors, we collect information about qualifications, subjects taught, and teaching experience.
  • Communication Data: Messages, chat logs, and whiteboard sessions within our virtual classroom.

Parent & Child Data

  • Parent account holders may create accounts for minor children.
  • Child account data includes: name, profile picture, and lesson history.
  • Parents have full access to their linked children's data and activity.

Ratings & Reviews

  • Lesson ratings (1-5 stars) and feedback comments.
  • Tutor reviews (1-5 stars) with optional written comments.
  • Your display name is shown publicly with your reviews.

Real-Time Communication

  • Private messages between users.
  • Typing indicators and read receipts.
  • Message timestamps and delivery status.

Whiteboard Data

  • Drawing elements, text, and shapes created during lessons.
  • Whiteboard version history for each lesson.
  • Stored for post-lesson review by participants and linked parents.

Video & Classroom Data

  • Video Streams: Video and audio streams during lessons are processed through our video conferencing infrastructure but are not permanently stored.
  • Screen Sharing: Content shared during screen sharing sessions is transmitted in real-time but is not recorded.
  • Tutor Intro Videos: Tutors may upload, record, or provide external links to intro videos that are stored and displayed on their profiles.
  • Attendance Tracking: Classroom entry and exit timestamps are recorded for attendance verification and no-show detection.

Beta Waitlist Data

  • Registration Information: Email address and name for waitlist registration.
  • Status Tracking: Waitlist status (waiting, notified, registered) and notification timestamps.
  • Referral Data: Referral codes and referrer information if you joined via a referral link.

Usage Data

  • Technical Data: IP address, browser type and version, time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform, and other technology on the devices you use to access our Services.
  • Usage Information: Information about how you use our Services, including lesson attendance, duration of sessions, and features used (e.g., Whiteboard, Video).

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect for various purposes, including:

  • To provide and maintain our Services, including the Virtual Classroom.
  • To process payments and tutor payouts via Mobile Money.
  • To notify you about changes to our Services.
  • To provide customer support and resolve payment disputes.
  • To gather analysis or valuable information so that we can improve our Services.
  • To detect, prevent and address technical issues or fraud.
  • To carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us, including for billing and collection.
  • To display ratings and reviews to other users.
  • To enable real-time messaging and notifications.
  • To store whiteboard content for lesson review.
  • To enable parents to monitor their children's learning progress.

4. Data Sharing

We may share your personal information in the following situations:

  • With Payment Processors: We share necessary transaction data (Phone Number, Amount) with Pawapay to facilitate Mobile Money collections (Airtel/MTN) and disbursements.
  • With Service Providers: We may share your information with cloud hosting providers, video conferencing infrastructure providers, and database hosting services who assist in operating our Service.
  • For Business Transfers: We may share or transfer your information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.
  • With Other Users: When you book a lesson, your Display Name and Profile Picture are visible to the Tutor/Student you are connecting with.
  • Ratings & Reviews: Your ratings and reviews (along with your display name) are visible to all users viewing a tutor's profile. Lesson-specific feedback is only visible to the tutor who conducted the lesson.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., Zambian courts or government agencies).

5. Data Retention

We will retain your personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use your information to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, keeping financial records for tax purposes), resolve disputes, and enforce our policies.

If you are a tutor, we will retain your verification documents (government-issued ID and educational credentials) only for the duration of the verification process. Once verified, these documents are deleted from our active systems, though a record of verification status is maintained.

6. Data Security

The security of your data is important to us. We implement a variety of security measures including:

  • Encryption of sensitive data both in transit (SSL) and at rest.
  • Strict access controls for our employees.
  • Regular security audits of our payment integrations.

Remember that no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Parent-Managed Accounts

Parents may create and manage accounts for children under 18. For children under 13, parental consent and supervision is required. Parents can:

  • View all lesson history and communications.
  • Observe live lessons in view-only mode.
  • Manage account settings and delete the account.
  • Access whiteboard content from completed lessons.

Parents are responsible for ensuring appropriate use of the platform by their children and for supervising their children's tutoring activities as needed.

9. International Data Transfers

Your information may be processed in Zambia or other jurisdictions where our cloud service providers are located. By using our service, you consent to the transfer of information to countries outside of your country of residence, which may have different data protection rules.

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
